Keep the ball rolling

February 24, 2009

At Last!

We are beginning to see new leadership that understands the importance of sustainable, safe, clean energy production. Our new President has spoken clearly about America needing new and better sources of power, and his willingness to support those efforts. The positive trickle down effect has already begun. As just one example, two weeks ago in Michigan Governor Granholm, who realizes that Michigan needs cleaner air, not bigger cars and more coal plants on the lake shore, took decisive action. Despite pressure from the fossil fuel industry, she boldly announced sweeping new policies to make Michigan a leader in renewable, efficient energy programs over the next 10 years. See www.progressmichigan.org for more.

Old Ways Die Hard

While there are those stepping up to lead the way, there are still some who prefer not to make any significant change, even when they can. Sadly, this is happening in America today. For example, Ford Europe just completed its 2009 Auto show featuring the Ford Fiesta Econetic, a 4-5 passenger, turbo diesel family car that delivers 65-75 MPG with ultra low Co2 emissions. It is only $24,000 and is available today-BUT ONLY in EUROPE! Great for Europe, but when asked about selling it in the USA, Ford America said they will not sell it here, citing it as a bad business decision, too expensive, and not wanting to offend Americans who do not like diesel as a fuel! See the car in this YouTube video.

Keep the Ball Rolling

We all know this is a critical window of time in human history, and that we must make long overdue changes in how we use energy. Each one of us can contribute to making these changes happen. You may not be going to buy a new fuel efficient car this month or even this year, but you can keep the ball rolling in the days to come by supporting leaders and companies who move in the direction of new energy. Today you can personally spread the word to your friends about organizations like the Orion Project that strive to find and bring forth new energy devices. And you can donate to the Orion Project to keep the ball rolling toward a future filled with truly wonderful new energy sources.

Add your voice to the discussion by faxing a letter to President Obama and your representatives to let them know that at least part of the $80 Billion in renewable energy funding in the Stimulus bill just signed should go to new energy solutions at the Orion Project!
